Horse driven carriages museum : A unique and private collection of 18th and 19th century carriages.
Every second and last saturday of each months from march 14 th to october 31st 2009, from 3 pm to 6 pm.
The fountains are still gravity fed like in the same way as in the seventheen century: the rain is capted along three aqueducts stretching several kilometres and fall in a large reservoir above the Gerbe pool. From there, the water feeds the pools and the fountains with the only force of gravity. Therefore, the frequence of the fountain show depends on the local pluviometry. Back to the top
Every year, when comes the nice days, Vaux le Vicomte open its estate for all the visitors looking for the beauty of nature, landscape, and exceptionnal architecture. As evening falls on Saturdays between May and October, and Fridays in July and August, over 2,000 candles are lit throughout the château and gardens. This festival of light is complemented by classical music in a section of the gardens, designed by Le Nôtre. Stretched out in a deckchair, visitors can allow themselves to be transported back in time by this magical illumination to a memorable page of history, the only party given at Vaux le Vicomte by Nicolas Fouquet, on 17 August 1661, in response to a request from the young king Louis XIV. Vaux le Vicomte is a special place for children with many activities organised specially for them. Easter egg hunts, riddles, treasure hunts, costume tours, theatre…
Costume visits : In order to experience life at the King’s Court and discover the history of the castle, children can visit its state rooms and formal reception halls dressed as Princes, Princesses and Musketeers. (Costumes available for hire on weekends, bank holidays and during school vacations: 4 €).
Riddle Books : Riddle books allow younger children to discoverthe castle, the customs of the period and help them find their way around the exhibits.Older children can discover the amazing story of Nicolas Fouquet by following a trail that them through the different rooms of the castle and to the four corners of the gardens designed by Le Nôtre. Booklets available in english and dutch. .
